Twenty five years ago Sundance Books began in the upstairs of the building that once occupied the current Scoville Building lot. Buzzo was the landlord at the time and offered Barry and his friends an opportunity to use this space to start Sundance Books. It was a small shop that started as a way for Barry and his friends to satisfy their appetite to read and share their love of books with others.
After fire devastated the original location in 1972, Buzzo once again offered Sundance an opportunity to continue to build his business in the basement of 106 Main St. At that time the store that occupied the current Sundance Main St. location was called Drawers Unlimited, a pants store and Buzzo Music was next door where it still is today.In 1975 Buzzo and Sundance together purchased the building from its owner Ray Sherman. At that time Sundance Books opened its current Main Street location. Over time students and faculty alike began requesting various college text titles through Sundance, most often citing dissatisfaction with the services of the bookstore on campus and unavailability of necessary text titles.
Always emphasizing personal customer service and attention to detail, the demand for this kind of resource spread quickly through the SUNY Geneseo community. The textbook business grew into the basement of the current Sun-Buzz building and eventually expanded into its current home at 2 School St. Sundance's unique customer service has expanded to the internet, allowing students to order their textbooks merely by clicking the books they wish to purchase and then pick them at the store. The size and scope of Sundance Books has certainly undergone significant changes in the last 35 years but one thing has remained constant and that is our devotion to kindness oriented customer service.
The Main Street location is the cornerstone of our success. The Main street store contains an eclectic mix of best-sellers,contemporary and classic literature, holistic and alternative lifestyle readings and a wide variety of health and cook books. We also supply textbooks to Genesee Community College through our Main Street location. Browsing Sundance is a required experience while in Geneseo.
